Our environment is contaminated with heavy metals, the food we eat may be grown in soil contaminated with lead, arsenic and cadmium, the water we drink, and the fish we eat may all add to the overload of heavy metals in our bodies. The symptoms of heavy metal toxicity are extensive, they range from psychiatric disturbances, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease, hearing impairment, vision problems, cancers, hypertension, heart disease, suppressed immune system, and the list goes on. Since tinnitus appears to be fairly widespread, perhaps heavy metal contamination should be considered. Blood, urine and hair can be tested, there was some negative comment about hair analysis sometime back, as to its accuracy. Three heavy metals which can cause tinnitus are cadmium, lead and mercury. Cadmium causes buzzing in the ears. Lead produces tinnitus with occasional sudden deafness. Mercury can produce violent pulsation in the ears as well as ringing.
